As an update to my previous post about the Kids Eat Right logo appearing on the Kraft Singles packaging, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is negotiating with Kraft to terminate their contract allowing this logo to appear. Unfortunately, the packaging roles out on April 1, but efforts are being made to limit the amount of time these packages are on grocery store shelves. The Academy has apologized, stating “This pilot initiative was never intended to be an official Academy endorsement of a particular product, which is strictly prohibited by our policy and is expressly included in all contracts.”
I agree with this move. As I said before, intended or not, this logo implied an endorsement of the American cheese product. This serves as an important reminder to us as consumers, however, to know exactly what logos on packages actually mean.
Happy eating!
